Cyclone Michaung: 12 flights cancelled at Pune airport due to rains in Chennai

PUNE: The heavy rains and flooding in Chennai, which has led to the Chennai airport getting shut down has had a cascading effect in Pune with 12 flights recording cancellations disrupting travel plans of hundreds of flyers. In addition to flights, some trains have also been affected, Pune rail division officials said.


Pune airport officials said that more information was being sought from different airlines which will be updated. “The cancellation of these flights is the result of bad weather conditions in Chennai. We are seeking more information presently,” Santosh Dhoke, the Pune airport director told TOI.

A total of six departing flights and six arrivals have been cancelled till now. All these flights belong to IndiGo, airport authorities said. They include flights from Chennai to Pune, Mangalore to Pune, Hyderabad to Pune, Nagpur to Pune, Pune to Bengaluru, Pune to Chennai, Pune to Nagpur and Pune to Mangalore.

Incessant very heavy rains have hit Chennai due to cyclone Michaung throwing life out of gear. Owing to heavy water logging at the apron area of the Chennai airport, the facility has been closed down for all flight operations till 11pm on Monday.
