Cruelty case filed against Vishrantwadi society staffers for beating a stray dog to death
Pune: The Vishrantwadi police have registered a case of cruelty to animals against a housekeeping staffer and watchman of a private housing society in the area after they brutally beat a stray dog to death with sticks near the premises. The incident took place around 2am on Friday.
Police said the dog’s pained cries could be heard by area residents as it was being assaulted. A local resident (32) lodged a complaint against the duo on the same day. The stray dog used to live near the society and was fed regularly by some residents.
According to the police, the accused staffer said he was chatting with the watchman, when the dog came to the spot. He claimed that the dog bit him on his leg without provocation. The staffer said they both then picked up sticks from the roadside and decided to attack the animal, beating it to death.
The accused duo has been booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
