PUNE: A man was detained on Monday under the
Maharashtra Prevention
of
Dangerous Activities
(
MPDA
) for
creating terror
among the residents in Dhankawdi area.
The suspect, Prashant Prakash Khatape (27) of Kamitkar Chawl, Keshavnagar in Dhankawadi, has cases of body offences and extortion registered against him. Khatape will spend a year in Thane Central Prison.
A T Waghmale, inspector of the Sahakarnagar police station, prepared the proposal of detention of Khatape under MPDA. “Khatape was active in the crime since the year 2008. He had cases registered against him with the Sahakarnagar police station,” Waghmale said.
Waghmale said that in October this year Khatape and his accomplices had threatened a resident of Dhankawdi for dire consequences and had also demanded extortion of Rs 25,000 from him. “The Sahakarnagar police had taken preventive action against Khatape. Despite of that Khatape was indulged in criminal activities,” Waghmale said.
Waghmale said that due to Khatape’s terror, the local peopled did not dare to approach the police station to lodge the complaint against him. “Under the guidance of joint commissioner of police Sunil Ramanand, we have prepared the proposal under MPDA,” Waghmale said.
The Pune police commissioner Rashmi Shukla approved the proposal and issued the orders in this regard, Waghmale said.
