Cops urge revellers to not indulge in drunk driving

Pune: The Pune Rural police have urged revelers visiting Lonavla and Khandala to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and not park vehicles haphazardly along the Pune-Mumbai highway.
The police have also appealed to shopowners and vendors not to encroach the highway and the roads leading to picnic spots to avoid congestion.
“Due to the encroachments on the road and reckless driving, the traffic situation worsens on the highway, especially on weekends,” sub-divisional police officer (Lonavla) Satya Sai Karthik of the Pune Rural police said.
He said it was found that the owners of various shops operating on the roads leading to different picnic spots in Lonavla put their banners, boards and even goods outside their stores. “We have also told the traders that they should avoid loading goods in their shops during the daytime on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays,” Karthik said.
He said if the police noticed any road encroachments, legal action would be initiated. “We are keeping a close watch on the revelers to avert drunk driving and teasing of women. We will take stringent action against such people and will also be checking vehicles entering Lonavla,” the officer added.
