PUNE: Notorious criminal Bandu alias Surykant Andekar (50), who was arrested on Saturday, has filed an application in the court claiming that he was severely beaten up by the officials of the Samartha police station.
Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Girish Deshpande has directed the Samartha police to conduct medical check-up of Andekar and submit the report on February 24.
Andekar was arrested by the Samartha police on Saturday for allegedly erecting flex boards defaming the police for initiating externment proceedings against him and his family members.
He was produced in the JMFC court on Sunday afternoon by the police. Andekar submitted an application to the court stating that he was severely beaten up by inspector Dattatreya Temghare of the Samartha police while arresting him from his house at Hadapsar. He has claimed that he got his legs fractured. He also claimed that his family members were not informed about his arrest.
After receiving the application, JMFC Girish Deshpande has directed the Samartha police to take Andekar to Sassoon general hospital for a medical check-up and submit the report to the court on February 24. The court also remanded Andekar to judicial custody for 14 days.
Meanwhile, inspector Dattatreya Temghare has refuted all allegations made by the suspect. "On Saturday, when we went to Andekar's house to arrest him, he tried to flee. He fell down while we were chasing him and his leg may have been fractured in the incident," Temghare said.
He added that Andekar's second allegation is also baseless. At the time of his arrest, his daughter and other relatives were present in the house. However, his wife was not to be seen, he added.
