Content writing, animation create a buzz

PUNE: At a time when people are increasingly relying on the Internet as a source of information, education and entertainment, there are several emerging career options available for students, experts said here on Tuesday. They, however, urged students to make an informed choice.
"This is an era where products are also marketed through social networking sites.Information must be continuously updated and there is a lot of need for content writers," said Anupam Srivastava, managing director of Admizzionz Campuz at the 'Mission Admission' event on alternate careers organized by The Times of India. Looking beyond the obvious career choices that students make after Standard XII, experts from unconventional fields gave the audience an insight into their world.
Speaking about the career prospects in the field of animation, Subhdarshi Tripathy, business head of ZeeQ, told the students that if they want to pursue a career in this field then they should enroll for a full-time course instead of the part-time courses that are usually advertised through leaflets slipped into the morning papers.
"If you are not trained well, you may get a job, but you will not be able to grow. This is a field where the half-baked options do not work. If you take a plunge, take a plunge," Tripathy said. It is certainly a lucrative career option even though some of the courses offered are expensive, he added.
In the course of his presentation on careers in television, animation and gaming, he also clarified doubts about the importance of sketching skills for animators, career opportunities as a voice-over animation artist and opportunities in the gaming industry among others.
Post break, not even minor problems with the power-supply could curb the enthusiasm of the participants as an impromptu interactive session started in the entrance hall. Tanmay Khandekar, associate professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), fielded the queries about a career in design.
Earlier in the day, Bruce MacFarland, dean of the College of Events and Media, spoke to students about opportunities in areas like event managements, public relations and advertising.
"My favourite session was the one on event management as I got to know many career options that I had no information about," said Nitya Binny, who has appeared for her Std XII examinations.
The session was followed by a presentation on careers in hospitality and tourism addressed by Rahul Sharma, zonal head of the Kuoni Academy. The final session was addressed by Satyender Tanwar from Fortis Healthcare who outlined the career opportunities in the healthcare sector.
