Congress Committee (MPCC) has expelled two of its corporators in Pimpri Chinchwad for carrying out anti-party activities.
MPCC secretary and media coordinator
Abhijit Deshmukh said in a statement issued on Friday that expulsion letters have been issued to Bhausaheb Bhoir and Vinod Nadhe. Nadhe’s one-year tenure as the leader of opposition in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation expired recently.
Congress corporator Kailas Kadam will replace Nadhe. However, nine out of 13 Congress corporators have opposed Kadam’s appointment and have threatened to boycott party functions.
Suresh Mhetre, group leader of NCP-promoted front with nine independent corporators, said, “We are trying to get the leader of opposition’s post and are in consultations with Congress and other parties.”
Sulabha Ubale, group leader of Shiv Sena and RPI (Athavale group) corporators, too wants to stake claim for the all-important post.
Congress and Shiv Sena had 14 corporators each after the 2012 civic polls. But Congress bagged the leader of opposition’s post after it received support from nine independent corporators.
Meanwhile, then Congress corporator Gautam Chabukswar quit the party and was elected as Sena MLA from Pimpri, reducing the strength of Congress corporators to 13.
Sena too expelled three women corporators for anti-party activities but has not conveyed it to the divisional commissioner so they technically remain in the party.
