PUNE: Tech doyen Narayana Murthy said on Friday that failure to deal with climate change in a timely manner may lead to mass migration to Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad from places which will become uninhabitable in future due to shifts in temperature and weather patterns.

Countries like India and some African nations are vulnerable to temperature rise, and one prediction is that in 20-25 years, some places in India will become uninhabitable, leading to migration from these places, he said.

He, however, said Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad are too difficult to live in due to issues like traffic and pollution.

"We in India, particularly the corporate sector, have to cooperate with politicians and bureaucrats and ensure that there is no mass migration. That is the challenge," he said while speaking at an event in Pune.

Murthy expressed confidence that the corporate world, along with politicians and bureaucrats, would be able to sort out the problem. He also said although Indians are used to doing everything at the last minute and even as there may not be frenetic activity in this regard as of now, there will be significant progress by 2030.
