Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) health department has received a provisional certificate from the IT department allowing donors to claim tax benefits under sections 80G, 12A and 12AA.
This is the first such initiative made by the health department and more public health programmes like TB elimination programme too would be hopefully brought under this scheme. The final certification is still awaited from the IT department, said health officials.
Dr Suryakant Devkar, assistant health officer at the PMC’s health department said, “We have just got the provisional certificate from the IT department and soon we will announce the account number and other details where donors can contribute and claim tax benefit. We will use the funds to spread education and awareness among people and students for safe sex practices and also buy medicines and food packets for AIDS patients.”
