PUNE: The city will pay a unique birth centennial tribute to Jagannathbuwa Purohit, alias Gunidas, the teacher of singing greats like Jitendra Abhisheki, C.R. Vyas and Mahendra Kapoor, at the S.M. Joshi auditorium at 5.30 pm on October 24.
As part of the centennial celebrations, a Ravi Shankar concert has also been organised at the 27th Gunidas sammelan in Mumbai on December 2, 3 and 4.
In the Pune programme, however, the very few remaining singers and tabla players who learnt under Jagannathbuwa will recount tales of his demanding teaching style and how it differs from the present style. Pt. Suhas Vyas, son of C.R. Vyas, will present some of his father''s guru''s compositions, while his son, Aditya, will compere the programme on behalf of the new generation of singers and listeners.
