PUNE: The 'cash-for-information' initiative of the rural police yielded good results and led to action against 42 illicit liquor dens and five gambling dens in the district on Thursday alone.
To curb illegal activities in the district, superintendent of police (Pune rural) Sandeep Karnik has made an appeal to the people to come forward and inform the police about such activities.

He has given his cell phone number and asked people to directly inform him about the illegal activities in their areas. Karnik also announced a cash prize of Rs 100 for every successful tip and promised that the informants' names will not be disclosed.
The scheme has received a huge response from the people and SP's inbox started flooding with tip-offs.
On Thursday, the police took action against 42 illegal liquor dens and five gambling dens. Illegal liquor worth Rs 80,553 was seized and action was taken against 37 people. The police have also arrested 30 people from the gambling dens and seized cash and gambling equipment from them.
Karnik told TOI, "We have received very good response from the public. On Friday, I have received around 100 SMSs and calls. My teams are working on these tips."
Action against the illegal activities will continue, Karnik said. "We want to eliminate all illegal activities from the district."
Karnik again appealed to citizens to SMS him on his cell 9922100333 any kind of information against illegal activities in the district.
