PUNE: The desire to see river Ganga landed Karad-based teenager in trouble, as he lost his way after reaching Mughal Sarai in Uttar Pradesh on May 24. However, thanks to the alertness of Childline - a 24 hour helpline for children in distress -- the boy will shortly be reunited with his family.
Childline-Pune took help of Mandai police station in Karad (Satara district) to trace thirteen-year-old Rahul Sambhaji Bhosale-Patil's father who drives a tractor in a sugarcane field.
Anuradha Sahasrabuddhe, director, Dnyana Devi-Childline, Pune, said that Rahul's father is on his way to pick up his son from the Childline centre in Chandouli. Mughal Sarai is a part of Chandouli district in Uttar Pradesh.
"We received a call from Childline-Chandouli on May 24 saying that they have found a boy in Mughal Sarai. He had a speech defect, but he managed to tell them that he was from Karad in Maharashtra. Childline-Chandouli called our volunteers in Pune. We spoke with the boy in Marathi. Though it was slightly difficult to understand him, we managed to find out that he was from Mandai in Karad," said Sahasrabuddhe.
Childline volunteers contacted the Mandai police chowky in Karad where assistant police inspector Y G Badekar got in touch with Rahul's father. "Rahul had recently cleared his class V final exam, and was visiting his relatives in Sasaram in Bihar for his vacations. It seems he wandered off from there, boarded a train and reached Mughal Sarai railway station. Luckily, the Childline volunteers spotted him. The father is relieved and is on his way to bring the boy home," said Badekar.
Rahul told the Childline volunteers that he had had no fight with his family.
He simply took the train to Mughal Sarai because he wanted to see the river Ganga in Varanasi "out of curiosity". Varanasi is 10 km away from Mughal Sarai.
