Cellphone shop owner loses Rs80K & bike

Pune: A cellphone shopowner (32) from Moshi received a double blow as a conman took Rs80,000 and drove away with his motorcycle too on Dec 11.The victim approached the Bhosari MIDC police on Saturday and lodged a complaint.On Dec 11, around 3pm, an unknown man came to the complainant's shop and requested him to transfer Rs 80,000 online, the money which the accused assured that he would return in cash. "The complainant agreed and transferred Rs 80,000 online via UPI," an officer from the Bhosari MIDC police said.He said after the payment, the man requested the complainant to take a motorcycle and accompany him to an ATM kiosk so that he could withdraw Rs 80,000. "He then requested the shop owner to allow him to drive the motorcycle as he knew where to go to withdraw cash. The shop owner agreed and gave his motorcycle to the man," he said.The officer said the man reached Kranti Chowk and stopped near the ATM kiosk of a private bank. As soon as the complainant got down, the man drove away with his motorcycle. "Collectively, the victim lost Rs 1.10 lakh," the officer said.He said the complainant has given a description of the man. He was wearing a pair of jeans and a green-coloured shirt. A case under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been filed against the unknown person. "We are searching for him," he said.
