Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Tuesday registered a separate case under the Arms Act against
Sabir Shaikh, a criminal on police records, on the charge of supplying a firearm to a Dehu Road resident.
The action was taken after the police recovered a firearm and seven cartridges from Shaikh's aide, Abhishek Reddy (25), a resident of Vikasnagar on Dehu Road.
Shaikh was recently arrested in connection with last week's murder of a security guard, who tried to prevent him from assaulting a dairy owner.
A crime branch team led by senior inspector Vijay Dhamal on Tuesday arrested Reddy and recovered the firearm and seven cartridges from him.
"During his questioning, Reddy revealed that Shaikh gave him the firearm," crime branch investigating officer Mahesh Khande said.
The police are now verifying whether the pistol recovered from Reddy was used by Shaikh in the recent murder.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act against Reddy and Shaikh with the Talegaon Dabhade police.
