CAIT stands firm on FDI policy in e-commerce
PUNE: The Confederation of All India Traders (
The CAIT’s statement came amid reports of likely deferment of the e-commerce FDI policy.
A source in the CAIT said it would be compelled to launch a nationwide campaign against any such move, which had a direct bearing on the livelihood of crores of traders and their employees.
The CAIT demanded that the department of industrial policy and promotion should immediately convene a meeting of stakeholders and make its stand clear on the issue to end the confusion in the matter.
“The government must not buckle under the pressure of large e-commerce giants in the election year. It can expect a major setback in traders’ votes if it defers the February 1 deadline. There are seven crore small traders and retailers in the country. The entire trading community will vote against the government if its extends the deadline,” said another source in the CAIT.
