Burglars climb tree to enter bungalow, steal jewellery

Pune: Burglars climbed a tree near a grocery store owner’s bungalow in Palm Groves Housing Society on BT Kawade Road to land on its terrace and then entered the premises to steal gold ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh.While the theft occurred on June 28, the bungalow owner, Mohit Agarwal, lodged a complaint only on Tuesday as he had to wait for his ailing mother to recover from her illness. She was the one who would provide details of the stolen ornaments that belonged to her, assistant inspector Sandeep Jore of the Mundhwa police said on Wednesday.When contacted, Agarwal said, “My mother had gone to her relatives’ place to seek treatment. I was staying on the ground floor because the work of renovating the bungalow on the first floor was in progress. I came to know about the burglary the same day. I informed my mother about the incident after she returned home on July 10, following which an FIR was registered on Tuesday.”Assistant inspector Jore said: “A CCTV camera is installed at the housing society main gate but we could not get details of the visitors or suspicious people frequenting the place because the back up of the footage got wiped out.” “We will be questioning those working at Agarwal’s bungalow to verify if they are involved in the burglary,” he added.
