PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: Separate multi-purpose hall for small cultural programmes and exhibitions along with rehearsal room, dining room for artists are some of the features of the 613-seater auditorium that the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has been constructing at Pimple Gurav.
Shirish Poredi, spokesperson, engineering department, PCMC, and Vijay Bhojane, spokesperson, BRT cell, PCMC, told TOI that the construction of the auditorium is likely to be completed in a month. Separate entrance and exit gates for vehicles, separate
parking
spaces for VIP vehicles, provision for future mechanised car parking and differently abled-friendly seats will be some of the
facilities
available at the auditorium. Moreover, there will be provision for parking of 78 cars and 312 four wheelers.
Giving the project details, Poredi said, “A plot measuring 40,000 sq ft was reserved in the development plan for construction of an auditorium, as a result work order was given in April, 2012, for construction of 750-seater auditorium. Three houses on the plot were demolished for this purpose but later it was decided to exclude the area of these houses from the reserved plot. As a result, the auditorium has now been built on plot of 35,000 sq ft only. A new plan was prepared and as a result the seating capacity got reduced to 613 seats. The auditorium has been constructed at a cost of Rs 24 crore.”
Bhojane said, “The civic body constructed its first auditorium in Chinchwad with a capacity of 1,200 seats. The second auditorium has been constructed at Sant Tukaramanagar and is known as Acharya Atre auditorium. The third auditorium has been constructed at Bhosari along Pune-Nashik highway.

in Pimple Gurav is under construction along 18 meter-wide Pimple Gurav–Sangvi Road and will cater to the needs of residents of Pimple Gurav, Sangvi and New Sangvi.”
Poredi said, “There is ample space for movement of people between rows of seats. The rows have been arranged in a zig-zag fashion so that the head of the person ahead will be no hindrance while watching plays being enacted on stage. Optimum use of available space has been made in the auditorium to provide maximum amenities to the visitors and artists.”
He said, “The size of the stage is 60x30 feet. There is provision for two rooms where the artists can stay for the night if the plays get over late in the night. There are separate lifts and entrances to the auditorium and multi-purpose hall. ”
