Not influenced police probe in hit-and-run case, says Bawankule

Pune: State BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday claimed that he has not influenced the police investigation to save his son Sanket in the hit-and-run case in Nagpur on Sunday. Bawankule and the BJP are facing heat from the opposition over the accident. The luxury car is registered in Sanket's name.
He said, "I am not talking much about the case or it will look like I pressured the police. I was with the home minister the whole day yesterday but I have not spoken a word about the case to him, nor have I made any call to the Nagpur police commissioner. Let the police investigate and name whoever they find guilty of the crime," Bawankule said in Pune. He was in Pune to offer prayers at various Ganesh pandals.
According to primary information, Sanket was inside the car at the time of the accident. The opposition has targeted the BJP alleging that the party is trying to cover up the case since Bawankule's son is involved.
The state BJP president, "Be it my son or any other person's, police action should be the same for everybody. Their investigation is on. They will take appropriate action against the person driving the car. If there is any action for the persons sitting in the same car which met with the accident, police should initiate that too."
