Beggar held for murder

PUNE: The Deccan Gymkhana police on Friday arrested Sambhaji Pawar (42), for the murder of Anubai Shrimandilkar (55), a beggar living on the pavement near Khanduji Baba chowk.
Pawar, also a beggar, had allegedly hit Shrimandlikar on the head with a crutch, while she was sleeping.
At first Pawar had been charged with attempted murder, but after Shrimandlikar succumbed to her injuries at Sassoon hospital, he was charged with murder.The motive behind the crime is not known.
A magisterial court has sent Pawar to police custody till August 9.
Inspector S P Patil (crime) is investigating the case.
