Pune: Award for three women scientists

PUNE: Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Gagandeep Kang and Tessy Thomas will be presented the 25th edition of the HK Firodia awards at a ceremony to be held in September here.
“In the 25th year of the awards and it is significant that the world’s leading woman biotechnopreneur will be the chief guest to honour the vaccine woman of India and also the missile woman of India,” said a statement from the organisers of the awards.
The organisers added that the ceremony to hand over the awards will be held on September 22 at the Balgandharva Rangmandir.
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, who will be awarded the HK Firodia Lifetime Achievement Award, is the executive chairperson and founder of Biocon, which produces a range of medicines and vaccines, while Gagandeep Kang, the recipient of the HK Firodia Vijnan Ratna award, is a virologist at the Christian Medical College, Vellore.
Tessy Thomas will be the recipient of the Vijnan Bhushan award.
She currently serves as the director general of the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s aeronautical systems division in Bengaluru.
