PUNE: The Chatushrungi police on Saturday booked a rap artist on the charge of shooting a song with obscene lyrics on the premises of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).

A security official, Sudhir Dalvi (50), in his complaint said the artist filmed a rap song with abusive and objectionable content on January 1 this year without seeking permission from the authorities.

Senior inspector Balaji Pandhare said, "The complainant said the song contained objectionable words, with shots of liquor bottles and weapons, which created fear in the minds of students, besides defaming SPPU."

Pandhare said the PMC has listed the university as a heritage structure and such events cannot be organised on the campus. The university officials came to know about the rap song on March 18. "The security official initially filed a complaint application on April 13. We conducted a preliminary inquiry and lodged a complaint under sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 448 (trespass) of the IPC, 67 (a) (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act," he said, adding that the rapper is not a student of the university.

University registrar Prafulla Pawar in a statement said, "It is objectionable and serious. The university condemns such acts."
