PUNE: A 34-year-old Army sepoy allegedly committed suicide at his house in Chandannagar on early Thursday morning. Sudhir Ashok Dhavale was attached to the signal regiment and was posted in Assam. He had come to Pune on a vacation and was about to return to Assam on Friday.
The Yerawada police found him hanging to the ceiling fan around 5.30 am on Thursday.
Police sub-inspector of the Yerawada police station V T Patil said the reason for suicide is not known yet. Dhavale had come to Pune on a month's leave and was going to leave for Assam on Friday.
Dhavale had dinner with his family on Wednesday and went to sleep.
"When his wife woke up around 5.30 am, she found the door of the room bolted from outside. She tried to call Dhavale, but there was no response. She then raised an alarm for help," Patil said.
Dhavale's brother Arvind, who stays next door, rushed to help.
When he broke the front door, he found Sudhir hanging from the ceiling fan.
Sudhir was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
Primary investigation has revealed that Dhavale was disturbed since the death of his father some three years ago. Patil said that a case of accidental death has been registered. Further investigations are on.
