PUNE: Social crusader Anna Hazare on Thursday sent a legal notice to Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari for allegedly making "defamatory statements" against him at a news conference at New Delhi on August 15.
Hazare's lawyer Milind Pawar sent the notice to Tiwari who had called him "corrupt from head to toe."
The notice asked Tiwari "to apologise with a written application and on behalf of his party (Congress), undertaking not to commit such false imputations and defamatory statements (about Hazare) in future."

The notice seeks clarification from Tiwari whether the statement made by him in the news conference was his personal opinion or statement made on behalf of the Congress party.
According to the notice, the defamatory statement made by Tiwari has lowered his image in the society.
The notice reads that Tiwari had made the false statement with malafide intention to harm the reputation of Hazare when he had launched an indefinite hunger strike at Ramlila grounds to press for passing of the Jan Lokpal bill.
