Think I have had enough, Baramati should now get a different MLA: Ajit Pawar

PUNE: Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday said Baramati should get a different MLA.

“A product does not get value at the place it grows. Baramati should get a different MLA. One can then compare my works from 1991 to 2024 with his works,” he said at a party workers' meeting in Baramati.

Ajit Pawar has represented the Baramati constituency multiple times since 1991.

Referring to his wife Sunetra’s defeat in the recent Lok Sabha election, he said “Sometimes, I think Baramatikars pick differently despite [me] doing so much work. I too think Ihave had enough. Nearly 33-34 years have passed [as Baramati’s representative]. I am 65 years old now and satisfied with what I have achieved,” he said.

Last month, he had said that fielding Sunetra from Baramati against his cousin Supriya Sule was a mistake and he regretted it. Supriya retained the seat with a victory margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said Baramati was getting many development works without asking for them because of his efforts.

Water supply projects are sanctioned and roads are built on a large scale and a medical college and an ayurveda college have come up in his constituency, Ajit Pawar said.

The upcoming assembly election was important not only for the state, but also for Baramati, he said. “Voters should consider this fact. There were many workers who reached out to the party with selfish intentions,” he said. He urged women to not rely on private agents or people claiming to help them get benefits of the Mukhyamantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin Yojana.

“The beneficiaries should be vigilant while applying for the scheme. Govt has created awareness about the scheme and the process to avail its benefits. Application facilities have been made available in anganwadis. They will help women who want to be a part of this programme. Nobody should fall prey to promises of private agencies and approach them to avail the scheme’s benefits,” he said.

The finance minister said an insurance scheme would be introduced to safeguard people’s savings in cooperative credit societies where fixed deposits up to Rs 5 lakh can be insured.

He also spoke about the new markets in Baramati and said land acquisition was on the cards. C attle markets would also be established, he added.
