Pune: The Union finance minister,
Nirmala Sitharaman, on Saturday exhorted youth to be ready for change while staying rooted amid the transformation in the country.
Addressing the students of the Symbiosis International University at the 19th convocation ceremony in the Lavale campus, the finance minister said, “From here you are setting out to change the world. But with each passing day, we have a different perspective of the world, which makes us realise that it is easy for us to keep changing too.”
Citing examples of how the country has come a long way, Sitharaman said, “We have seen this country moving from scarcity to a level of sufficiency.
At a point of time, we didn’t have enough to provide every household with cooking gas. So, from scarcity, we have moved to an India, which has enough and probably more.”
Raman Gangakhedkar, CG Pandit National Chair, ICMR, and Pankaj Khimji, advisor, foreign trade and international cooperation, Sultanate of Oman, were conferred with honorary DLitt during the event. Favour Obinna, a student of Symbiosis School of Culinary Arts, was awarded Prof SB Mujumdar Award for Outstanding Foreign Student of the year 2022.
Sitharaman called Gangakhedkar the visible face of confidence and hope during the pandemic.
