8-day police custody for extortionists

PUNE: Three accused, who were booked by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for extorting Rs 7 lakh from city-based builders Jai Prakash Goel and Bipin Nandurdikar, were remanded to eight days' police custody by first class judicial magistrate Govind Rathode.

pune: three accused, who were booked by the criminal investigation department (cid) for extorting rs 7 lakh from city-based builders jai prakash goel and bipin nandurdikar, were remanded to eight days'' police custody by first class judicial magistrate govind rathode. it may be recalled that an offence of extortion was registered by the cantonment police on a complaint given by the cid that chhota rajan gang members babya mayekar, arvind sapkale (34) and rajendra kedar (40), both residents of mumbai, and rajendra more (25), phursungi, extorted rs 7 lakh from goel and nandurdikar between december 1999 and april 2000.

sapkale, kedar and more, who were arrested by the pune police for the murder of city-based builder faizulla khan, are currently in magisterial custody. mayekar is absconding.
