3 fraudsters dupe woman of 2L with gold bait

Pune: Three persons, including a woman, duped a saree shopowner from Wadgaon Maval to the tune of Rs2 lakh, claiming they had found gold worth Rs7 lakh during an excavation work.The fraud happened near Khopoli police station in Raigad district in July this year. The shopowner, a 50-year-old woman, on Saturday, approached the Wadgaon Maval police to lodge a complaint.An officer from the Wadgaon Maval police said another woman, who also runs a saree shop in the area, contacted the complainant in July and told her that she knew a person who had found gold during excavation work. “The complainant told us that the woman assured her that the gold was real, and she had verified it with a jeweller. They showed the complainant a necklace, which they claimed to be found during the excavation work, and agreed to sell it to her,” the officer said.He said since the complainant did not have the entire amount in cash, the person told her she could give them Rs2 lakh as an advance amount and pay the remaining amount in instalments later. The complainant then checked the necklace with another jeweller in Pimpri and was told the gold was not pure, the police said. “Despite repeated calls, the man did not answer her calls. She then came to us to lodge a complaint,” he said.

Dont harass complainants at police stations: HC

The Patna High Court has warned the police department in Bihar that no person should be mistreated or harassed when approaching a police station to lodge a complaint. The warning came as a result of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Bihar Federation of Women Lawyers, which was filed in response to an incident of chain snatching from a woman advocate. The court emphasized that such mistreatment should not be repeated in the future.

Woman duped of 8 lakh, 2 arrested

Two men in Lucknow duped a woman of Rs 8 lakh by promising her a government job. They even helped her get a loan from a bank to pay them. After receiving the money, the men switched off their phones and did not fulfill their promise. The police have registered a case and arrested the accused.
