PUNE: A gang of about 15 men allegedly hacked a 25-year-old youth to death following a previous rivalry.
The
murder happened in Malshiras village in Purandar taluka around 50 km from Pune recently. The Pune rural police have arrested 10 men involved in the murder.
The police have identified the deceased as Rajendra Popat Khengre (25) Malshiras. Navnath Yadav (20) of Malshiras has lodged the complaint in this regard with the Jejuri police station.
Assistant inspector of the Jejuri police station Ramdas Shelke told TOI that during the fair in the Malshiras village two youths entered into a brawl over a petty issue. Following which the supporters of both of them gathered in large numbers. “Two groups attacked each other with sticks and iron rods,” Shelke said.
Shelke said that during the attack Khengre had sustained severe in juries. He was rushed to the nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
“We have arrested 10 persons including Yogesh Kolte, Mayur Yadav, Sagar Pandey, Prashant Kolte and six others,” Shelke said.
Shelke said that the police have launched a search to trace the remaining suspects, who are still at large., Shelke added.
Meanwhile, Jejuri police have also booked 23 persons in a cross complaint registered by one Sadashiv Kolte (50) with the Jejuri police station. Kolte stated in his complaint that the suspect Navnath Yadav and his accomplices thrashed his relatives with iron rods and also robbed gold ornaments worth Rs 45,000 of his wife. “We have arrested 10 persons in this regard,” Shelke added.
