Pawar, who was working in a tea stall near the Pune railway station, was arrested following a tip off.
Inspector Ramesh Galande (crime) said that although Pawar's name had surfaced during the initial investigations, his whereabouts were not known. He was absconding and had not even visited his residence after the incident.
Galande said Pawar admitted that he had committed the murder along with his two accomplices, since he suspected the deceased for having an affair with his wife. Pawar also revealed the identity of the deceased as Rajendra Tiwari, but the police are yet to ascertain this.
The police have identified Pawar's associates as Laxman and Nitin (full names not known) of Uttar Pradesh, but their addresses and whereabouts are not known.
Pawar has also shown the place where the murder was committed, said Galande, adding that the police have recovered the victim's shirt from Pawar's possession.
Meanwhile, the Airport police had earlier arrested Pawar in a murder case registered in May 2008. He was released on bail in 2009. After his release from the Yerawada central jail, Pawar learned that Tiwari was allegedly having an affair with his wife. Enraged by this, Pawar beat up Tiwari, removed his clothes and dumped his body near the MES quarters, said Galande.
The police had spotted Tiwari in an injured condition and rushed him to the Sassoon hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The post-mortem report said the victim had died due to injuries on his chest and abdomen. The victims viscera was preserved for chemical analysis, Galande added.
