PUNE: The police on Saturday arrested two of the seven men for allegedly committing a dacoity at the residence of a farmer at Gopalwadi in Daund near the city.
The arrested have been identified as Balu Nemsingh Bhil (22) and Raju
Rajesh Pawar (40), both residents of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.
Inspector Dayaram Shinde of Daund police station said a seven-member gang reached the residence of the farmer around 3am, when all the members of his family were asleep.
Shinde said an elderly man from the family opened the door, who was robbed of his cellphone and watch worth Rs 5,000. Thereafter, the dacoits who took to heels on hearing a siren of the police patrol.
Shinde said the old man shouted "chor chor", following which some people gathered and started chasing the dacoits when one of the farmers Girjappa Bapu Pawar opened fire from his licensed revolver injuring Bhil. He said a search conducted in a sugarcane field led to the arrest of the duo, while the others managed to escape. "We have fanned teams for tracing their other associatesA dacoity case has been lodged under sections of the Indian Penal Code," Shinde added.
