Pune: The vaccination units across the state received a fresh supply of 2.75 lakh Covaxin doses on Tuesday. The state immunisation officer, Sachin Desai, said the supply would ease the Covaxin shortage in the state. More doses were likely to arrive in the coming days, he said.
Desai said, “We have demanded around 40 lakh Covaxin doses for the month of February and have received around 6.75 lakh doses so far. Instructions have been issued at the respective circle-level to manage the uneven distribution of doses. Reports have been received from across the state that stock from the centres where the response is minimal or negligible is being diverted to the ones where the consumption is higher.”
Desai said the Pune district, where the shortage of Covaxin was reported, had been given the quota of around 55,000 doses. The Pune city got almost 30,000 doses. “Pune rural has a better stock of vaccines. Hence, the Pune and

Pimpri Chinchwad

units were given the priority this time,” he said.
According to

Desai

, around 9 lakh doses of Covaxin are still available in the state. The number of Covishield doses available is around 68 lakh.
“The response to the vaccination has slowed down a little bit from the past few days, especially with regards to the first and second doses. The unvaccinated citizens should get their shots at the earliest,” he said.
According to the CoWIN data, over 26,000 beneficiaries were vaccinated against Covid-19 across 564 government and private vaccination sites in the district till 7pm on Wednesday. A total of 1.69 crore doses of Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V have been administered in the district so far. Of them, 94.5 lakh are first doses, 72.7 lakh are second and 1.81 lakh are precaution doses.
