1.24 lakh jabs facing expiry within 38 days: Pune Municipal Corporation report

PUNE: A total of 1.24 lakh Covishield doses at 22 private vaccination centres/hospitals in Pune municipal limits were facing expiry within the next 38 days, the latest report of the

PMC

revealed on Monday.

Of these doses, 1.09 lakh are lying with Jupiter hospital alone and have March 5 expiry date. Jupiter hospital’s senior administrative official said, “We had a total 1.50 lakh doses, which have March 5 expiry. Of them, we have somehow used 50 doses so far. We still have 1,09,010 doses that are unlikely to be utilized by March 5. The state government should do something to salvage the loss.”

Wadia hospital

has 1,330 Covishield doses, which will cross the expiry date in the next seven days. “Our 1,330 vaccine doses will expire on February 28. This is a precious national medical resource and efforts should be made to prevent them from going to waste,” said hospital’s administrative official

A few centres have stock, which is going to expire in the next three days. “We have 940 Covishield doses which have a February 24 expiry date,” said an official from the Vision Next Foundation hospital.

Bharati hospital has 886 doses facing February 28 expiry and another 1,827 doses with March 5 expiry. “The state government should intervene,” said hospital’s deputy medical director

Dr Suryakant Devkar, PMC’s immunisation officer, said, “We have collated this data. So far, there are no guidelines regarding what is to be done to prevent these vaccines going to waste.
