Vellore collector and ministers lay foundation for Vellore smart city

Vellore : State minister for commercial taxes and registration department K C Veeramani and Labour department minister Nilofer Kafeel laid foundation for the 1000 crore vellore smart city project at a function organized at a private marriage hall in Sathuvachari on Tuesday .

Detailing the Vellore Smart City project S Sivasubramanian Commissioner of Vellore corporation said “In a vision to improvise all basic amenities and infrastructures by means of digitisation and to promote heritage tourism , education and medical services a joint venture of state and central government had allotted 500 crores each for the vellore smart city project .

Establishments of new public parks , upgrading drinking water supply from present 117 litres to 135 litres to each family, reaching ‘Under Ground Sewerage System’ (UGSS) to 71,500 more families , bringing the 198 small and repaired bridges for public usage, constructing 73 new Anganwadi centres and sprucing up the heritage Vellore fort are the key areas focused in the project ,” he said . DMK legislators including P Karthikeyan , A P Nandha Kumar and J L Eswarappan and AIADMK MLA G Loganathan and S Ravi and cadres from both the parties participated in the stone laying function held here .

Addressing the gathering DMK MLA from Anaicut and the party central district secretary, AP Nandhakumar said the DMK MLAs were shunned by the ruling party and district administration during meetings for the vellore smart city project. Being the representatives who need to respond to the queries of the public who elected us , at least in the future our party legislators should also be invited to every single meeting related to the Vellore smart city project, he said.

On behalf of the public we also request the 1000 crore fund to be completely utilized for the development of the city without deviating the funds for works beyond the proposed works he added.

Flutter as BJP functionary enters into argument

Meanwhile a commotion was created during the function as a BJP functionary entered into an argument with the corporation officials and AIADMK party leaders for missing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name in the banner set as the backdrop of the function. Selvaraj, Vellore corporation secretary of BJP, along with two of his supporters climbed up the dias entered in arguments with both AIADMK party functionaries interrupting minister Nilofer Kafeel’s speech .

K C Veeramani who immediately intervened to issue pacify Selvaraj assured him that he would ensure that such mistakes do not occur in the future. Later Selvaraj and his supporters left the function hall, raising slogans invoking Narendra Modi .
