PUDUCHERRY: Two women died and three others sustained severe burn injuries in an explosion at a firework
godown
at Karayambathur on the outskirts of of
Puducherry on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as P Deepa, 30, of Sournavur in
Tamil Nadu and C Kalamani, 50, of Karayambathur.
The injured have been identified as V Gunasundari, 45, of Ariyankuppam, who owns the firework manufacturing unit, S Vaitheeswari, 35, who is the sister of deceased Deepa, and V Gnanambal, 35 of Karayambathur.
The condition of the injured, who are undergoing treatment at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Research Institute, was said to be critical.
Police said workers were packing
fireworks
at the godown of a licensed firework manufacturing unit when the explosion occurred. The godown was razed to the ground in the explosion.
The Bahour police registered a case and began inquiries.
