Puducherry electricity dept employee sentenced to jail for sexually assaulting minor girl
PUDUCHERRY: A special court in Puducherry on Tuesday sentenced a 31-year-old electricity department employee to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl.
Principal district judge P Dhanabal, chairing the special court handling cases booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso), Act, 2012, also sentenced the man, identified as V Vinoth, 31, to seven years' rigorous imprisonment for trespassing the house of the minor girl with an intent to commit an offence and to six months' imprisonment for wrongfully confining the girl. All the terms will run concurrently.
According to special public prosecutor N Balamurugan, Vinoth visited the minor's house on May 15, 2019 to record the electric meter reading. He realized the girl was alone and raped her. He threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone.
The survivor narrated the incident to her neighbours, who informed her parents. Her parents then lodged a complaint with the Bahour police who registered a case under Section 5 c (a public servant commits penetrative sexual assault) and 6 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the Pocso Act, 2012 and sections 450 (house-trespass to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment for life) and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him.
