Puducherry: A team from Presidency University, Bengaluru, was adjudicated the winners of Colonel Dr Jeppiaar memorial second all India women’s moot court competition organised by Dr Ambedkar government law college in Puducherry.
The winning team – Praneesha Nayyar, Anuroopa and Sahana — got a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Devika, Samprithi and Kalyani B Nair of Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, bagged the second prize of Rs 25,000.
Madras high court judges - Justice R Subramanian and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy - chaired the final rounds of the contest.
Twenty-eight teams comprising 84 girls from various law colleges and universities across the country participated in the moot court competition themed, ‘Sexual harassment of women at workplace’.
The contest aimed to train girl students pursuing law in arguments before a court of law in a simulated condition. The contest was exclusive for girl students to ensure inclusive education and women empowerment.
Pondicherry University vice-chancellor Gurmeet Singh formally inaugurated the contest in the presence of Dr Ambedkar government law college principal A Vincent Arputham. Satyabhama University and Jeppiaar Technological University funded the competition.
