Presidency University wins all India women’s moot court competition

Puducherry: A team from

, Bengaluru, was adjudicated the winners of Colonel Dr Jeppiaar memorial second all India

women

’s

moot court

competition organised by Dr Ambedkar government law college in Puducherry.

The winning team – Praneesha Nayyar, Anuroopa and Sahana — got a

cash prize

of Rs 50,000. Devika, Samprithi and Kalyani B Nair of Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, bagged the second prize of Rs 25,000.

Madras high court judges - Justice R Subramanian and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy - chaired the final rounds of the contest. Twenty-eight teams comprising 84 girls from various law colleges and universities across the country participated in the moot court competition themed, ‘

Sexual harassment of women at workplace

’.

The contest aimed to train

girl students

pursuing law in arguments before a court of law in a simulated condition. The contest was exclusive for girl students to ensure inclusive education and women empowerment.

Pondicherry University vice-chancellor Gurmeet Singh formally inaugurated the contest in the presence of Dr Ambedkar government law college principal A Vincent Arputham. Satyabhama University and Jeppiaar Technological University funded the competition.
