With the weather cooling down, Puducherry's social calendar is beginning to sizzle. Coming up over the next fortnight is a smorgasbord of art, entertainment, theatre, cinema…in short a full-course meal to keep residents and tourists asking for more.
First on the list is a taste of fashion - Kerala-based designer Tina Eapen will showcase her collection at the Tanishq showroom on Mission Street on November 6, 10 am to 8.30 pm.
For theatre-lovers, there is the première of 'Land of Ashes and Diamonds', a play in French, English and Tamil, co-produced by Alliance Française de Pondichéry and Indianostrum Theatre Group.
The first part - Ashes - is scheduled for October 31 at the Alliance Francaise auditorium in Suffren Street while the second part -Diamonds - will be staged at the same venue on November 14. The opening act is particularly eagerly awaited because Kalieaswari Srinivasan - the leading actress in Jacques Audiard's Dheepan which won the Palme d'Or in Cannes this year - will be performing alongside the Indianostrum troupe.
Given the controversy surrounding Dheepan's Cannes win, Srinivasan's stage performance will be something that connoisseurs will no doubt watch out for. Alliance Francaise has also lined up some interesting expositions starting with the Crimson View painting exhibition by Gita at Maison Colombani.
Due for inauguration on November 2, it will continue till November 15. Then there is Art from the Heart, an exhibition of paintings by CD Jain, also at the same venue, on from November 23-December 3. There are films by Gita - Cosmic Blue on Chantal Gowa and Red Symphony on Achutan Kudallur - due for screening at AF auditorium on November 13. And there is an urban street art performance by Marko93 on November 29.
