Jipmer gets licence to do tissue transplant

The Union health and family welfare ministry granted licence to Jawaharlal institute of postgraduate medical education and research (Jipmer) to perform cadaveric tissue transplantation.

PUDUCHERRY: The Union health and family welfare ministry granted licence to Jawaharlal institute of postgraduate medical education and research (Jipmer) to perform cadaveric tissue transplantation. Jipmer, which recently acquired the license to perform liver transplantation, can now perform transplantation of vital tissues like skin, bones, soft tissues, digits, hands, limbs, ear, nose, genitalia and face.Victims of accidents and burns, cancer patients and patients who have lost vital tissues after surgery , can be benefited by transplantation of these tissues taken from deceased people. Jipmer has also been performing cornea and kidney transplantation.The institute applied for license in April, 2016 and the Union health and family welfare ministry, which sent a team for inspection of the facilities in the institute on July 29, granted license, said Jipmer director S C Parija.
