JFA Puducherry and IMA Madurai condemn murder of medical student in Kolkata

PUDUCHERRY/MADURAI: Jipmer Faculty Association (JFA), Puducherry, and the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Madurai, condemned the murder of a second-year postgraduate medical student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkatta.

In a press release, JFA president Dr Bikash Kumar Naredi said the heinous act, committed within the halls of the institute during duty hours, is a grim reminder of the grave dangers faced by those who selflessly work for others. The indications that the resident may have been subjected to sexual assault are beyond devastating, he said.

IMA, Madurai, urged the authorities concerned to strengthen security for doctors in hospitals and ensure a safe and comfortable environment for them, especially for women doctors.

IMA secretary (Madurai) Dr V N Alagavenkatesan said National Medical Commission must make surprise inspections to learn the working conditions of doctors.
