Puducherry: A 68-year-old French citizen of Puducherry origin was found dead at her residence here on Tuesday. S Honorine was living with her six-year-old granddaughter born to her adopted daughter.
Police said Honorine, who separated from her husband Susairaj, 10 years ago, settled at Chinnaiyapuram in Muthailpet in the town limits.
The couple did not have any child and Honorine adopted a boy and a girl, who settled in France after marriage.
Her granddaughter through her adopted daughter was staying with her and studying at a French school.
Police have initiated a probe into the murder. The woman was watching televi sion in the hall after putting the girl to sleep in a room in the house on Monday night.The next morning the girl found her grandmother unconscious in the chair with injuries to the face. She sought the help of the neighbours, who alerted the police.
A team led by Muthialpet inspector S Bascarane and sub inspector R Muthukumar rushed to the spot and made preliminary investiga ions. Forensic experts combed the scene for vital clues. A sniffer dog, which was pressed into service, ran up to the main road.
Police suspect the involvement of a relative or a person known to the family in he crime. An investigation officer said the assailant hit her on the face with a blunt object, killing her on the spot. He said they had identi ied the accused and hoped to secure him at the earliest.
