Centre clips Puducherry governor Kiran Bedi's wings

PUDUCHERRY: The home ministry has directed chief secretary Ashwani Kumar to consider re-delegation of lieutenant governor Kiran Bedi's financial powers to the secretaries, heads of the departments and offices and council of ministers proportionately.
Under-secretary (home) Sanjay Kumar in a communication addressed to the chief secretary acknowledged that the "financial power of the LG has been enhanced substantially.", adding that re-delegation "may be in the overall interest of good governance, and will help in smooth functioning of government." in public interest."
CM V Narayanasamy had earlier urged home minister Rajnath Singh to enhance delegated financial powers of administrative secretaries, finance department and council of ministers for various purposes. He had accused Bedi of acting in "unethical, unilateral and unprincipled" manner interfering in the day-to-day administration of Puducherry. and thus blocking the implementation of various schemes and development activities.
He said the lieutenant governor usurps the power vested in the elected government and repeatedly violates the provisions of 'Transaction of rules of business', other norms and guidelines etc. causing irreparable damages to the administrative systems in Puducherry.
