PUDUCHERRY: A finance officer from the comptroller and auditor general office in, New Delhi, will join Pondicherry University to streamline the financial activities of the institution based on the guidelines from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Pondicherry University vice-chancellor (in-charge) Anisa Basheer Khan made an announcement during a Teachers’ Day programme on Monday.

She said the UGC had agreed to provide an interim grant for construction of hostels for the university. However, she did not divulge the quantum of the interim grant.
The students had earlier staged a series of protests demanding adequate hostel facilities for them.
Anisa said the university had formed a high-power committee to study the grievances of the students and recommend appropriate measures to redress them. The committee has a dean as the chairman. Senior professors, who deal with student affairs, have been appointed as members of the committee. Representatives from the student community have been also included as members.
She said the directorate of distance education proposes to offer MBA programme and postgraduate diploma programmes through e-mode of learning. The university has sent details of the faculty members engaged for the development of e-content for massive open online course to the Union human resources ministry.
She said the campus would be Wi-Fi-enabled within October 31. The university proposes to establish a few centres with potential for excellence. She said the university would go for re-accreditation in 2016.
The university has launched efforts to constitute academic and administrative audit committees. It will offer revised courses through a choice-based credit system. These courses will be introduced in the community colleges too. The university constituted a working committee in this regard, she said.
