PUDUCHERRY: Lieutenant governor Kiran Bedi greeted the people of Union territory of Puducherry on the occasions of Tamil New Year and Malayalam New year celebrated on April 14 and 15 respectively.
"Puthaandu is celebrated on the first day of Chithirai in the Tamil calendar, which falls on April 14 this year. The day is observed as a family time and people decorate their homes with kolam and visit temples.

Similarly, the Vishu festival is celebrated on the first day of Malayalam calendar, which falls on April 15 this year," Bedi said.
"On this auspicious occasion, I convey my heartiest wishes to the people of Union territory of Puducherry. May the begining of the traditional New Year usher in prosperity, peace and health," she said
