The arrested were identified as Moorthy, 36, of Jeeva Nagar, Parthiban, 30, and Devaraj, 24, of Lawspet, Mithunkumar, 27, of Lakshmi Nagar, Vettri, 23, and Mohanraj, 22, of Karuvadikuppam in Puducherry.

Four more men involved in the crime surrendered before the Madras high court on Wednesday. They were identified as J Sathya alias Alex Sivaperumal, P Krishnakumar, N Karthikeyan and R Vigneswaran.

A Puducherry court had on Monday acquitted P Amaran, 24, and 10 others in a murder case. He was released from the central prison the same day. His father, Pandian, and brother-in-law Udayakumar decided to take him to a relative’s house in Thanjavur district fearing attacks by rival gangs.

On their way to Thanjavur, they stopped their car near Vadalur, where Pandian, Udayakumar and the driver went to buy liquor. A gang of armed men who had followed them on bikes dragged Amaran out of the car and attacked him with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot. His father, who attempted to save him, was also attacked by the gang.
