, several youths are opting for virtual modes to get recruited and webinars for selecting institutions for

online courses

When Sonal Sinha received a newsletter regarding an educational fair, she immediately agreed to attend it. “It was a videoconference where executives of several colleges talked about their institutions. I got to know about colleges where they were giving me a chance to study online and get the same normal degree. As of now, I have shortlisted three colleges. I will take admission as soon as my final year exams are conducted,” the

As many people have lost their jobs due to the lockdown, Patnaites are trying to get recruited by applying online. Deepashree Biswas got a job in a Gurgaon-based firm after applying through an online platform. “The entire

lockdown

period had been nothing less than a challenge for me. I did several online internships but my aim was to get a full-time job. After searching for months, I finally got the company I was looking for. The interview was conducted via video call, after which I was selected for the ‘social media specialist’ role. As I cannot leave Patna right now, they have given me the facility of working from home for the next three months,” she said.

Many youths are also opting for virtual internship at private companies and educational institutions. A third-year student of mass communication, Sareen Yasmin, is doing two virtual internships from home. She said the internships were helping her get experience in the field she wished make a career in. “Doing things virtually is no less than an opportunity during

period. Currently I am working as a social media manager and content curator at two Patna-based private companies,” she said, adding that she was being paid for both her internships.

Postgraduate student Shivam Kumar (name changed) was asked to do a three-month internship as a part of college assignment. Kumar said he had to face hassles in finding a good company for internship. “I started working in May when the country was still under lockdown. There were reports of job losses and several other things because of which I took around a month to find a company of my choice for my internship,” he said.
