Patna: A 28-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly raping his minor sister-in-law during a family gathering in Vaishali district.
The accused, a resident of Muzaffarpur district, allegedly assaulted the girl at his in-laws’ house in Vaishali on Monday evening during his visit.
The girl’s family lodged a complaint, accusing the youth of committing the crime. Upon receiving the information, the local police arrested the accused and forwarded him to jail on Tuesday morning.
The 15-year-old girl, who is in class VII, was sent for a medical examination.
Given the gravity of the offence, Sadar SDPO Gopal Mandal, accompanied by a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), arrived at the crime spot. He instructed the FSL experts to gather evidence. “The girl’s statement was recorded,” he said.
He further said the legal proceedings will depend on the outcome of the victim’s medical examination and the scientific evidence collected.
A police officer said the accused came to stay at his in-laws’ residence in Vaishali. “Around 3.30pm on Monday, he took the minor sister-in-law (his wife’s cousin) to the in-laws’ house and committed the crime. The girl returned to her home around 4.12pm and narrated the ordeal to her mother, following which the complaint was registered. The police are investigating the case,” he said.
