PATNA: The state water resources department (WRD) has asked the engineers to be vigilant and constantly monitor the condition of embankments in the wake of heavy rain in the last 24 hours.
State WRD minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary on Monday reviewed the department’s preparedness and directed the engineers to remain vigilant during the rainy season. At a meeting with senior department officers, Choudhary said, “The government has made all arrangements to ensure safety of people living along rivers, embankments and canals.

Under no circumstances we can allow any major problem due to floods.”
The minister asked the engineers to regularly visit canals and embankments and immediately report any erosion or breach to top officials of the department and local administration. “Everyone should be vigilant round-the-clock and reports should be sent daily to the monitoring organization at the headquarters,” he said. The department has already arranged sand bags, boulders and other materials to help repair any breach in the embankments due to heavy rain.
State water resources secretary D K Singh has asked the engineers to keep updating the headquarters and district administration through SMSs and e-mails on a regular basis about rain and rise in water level in rivers.
