World-class facilities at Jagjivan stadium soon
Patna: In a bid to promote sports and provide a platform for upcoming talented sportspersons, ECR GM Chhatrasal Singh on Saturday announced plans for the expansion and development of Jagjiwan stadium in Khagaul. The project, to be undertaken at a cost of Rs 32 crore, aims to elevate the stadium to world-class standards by offering state-of-the-art facilities and enhanced opportunities for talented sportspersons.
According to Singh, the expanded stadium will feature modern infrastructure, including enhanced seating capacity, upgraded training areas and facilities for a variety of sports, including a sports hostel. The GM emphasised that the initiative forms part of the ECR’s broader commitment to fostering sports talent across the region. “This project will serve as an important hub for aspiring sports persons, providing them with necessary resources to hone their skills and compete at higher levels,” he said.
According to ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra, the development will also include improved spectator amenities to ensure that the stadium can accommodate a larger audience during events. A blueprint of the stadium facelift was reviewed by the GM, while the tender for the physical work has been floated by the railways, he said.
Local athletes and sports enthusiasts have welcomed the announcement, expressing optimism about the opportunities the upgraded stadium will create. “This will be a game-changer for the sports community here in Khagaul. With better facilities and infrastructure, we now have a chance to showcase our talent at a bigger level,” said a local sportsperson of Khagaul.
The project is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe. Once completed, Jagjiwan stadium will not only provide top-class facilities for regional events but will also be positioned to host national-level competitions, further strengthening its place as a cornerstone of sports development in Bihar, Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Vinod Kumar said, adding that the GM also inspected the Madhu Vihar railway colony in Khagaul.
