Woman throws kids into canal, attempts suicide in Aurangabad
AURANGABAD: In a shocking incident on Saturday morning, one Ranju Devi (35), a resident of village Darihat under Rohtas district, killed her two kids by throwing them in a canal close to Khaira village under Barun police station of Aurangabad district. The woman also made an unsuccessful bid to commit suicide by jumping into the canal but local people saved her.
According to police sources, Ranju, married to one Jitendra Kumar, was upset because of frequent quarrels in the family. "Ranju wanted to stay in a separate house, not with her in-laws, but her husband was not ready to accept her demand," said the sources, adding "On early Saturday, she took a train and reached Sone Nagar junction, from where she reached the canal close to village Khaira."
On reaching the canal, Ranju threw her kids Amarjeet and Anjali, both minors, into the canal but her third child Amit fled away from spot. "She also jumped into the canal, but was saved by the villagers," said police. On getting information, Barun police reached the spot and took the woman into custody. SHO Brajesh Kumar said the woman has been arrested. Police are trying to fish out the body of the kids.
"Preliminary investigation has revealed that family feud is the main reason behind the incident," said the SHO, adding police would use a psychiatrist to examine the mental condition of Ranju.
Ranju's husband, who reached the spot after getting information, said he never expected such a thing to happen. "I never thought she will take such an extreme step and kill our children," he said.
